Francis Scott Key
Francis Scott Key (1 August, 1779 – 11 January , 1843) was an American lawyer, author, and poet from Frederick, Maryland, best known for writing The Star-Spangled Banner, originally titled, The Defence of Fort McHenry. which was set to a popular British tune and eventually became the American national anthem. Key was a lawyer in Maryland and Washington, D.C. for four decades. He was nominated for District Attorney for the District of Columbia by President Andrew Jackson, where he served from 1833 to 1841.
